Western Sydney University engaged BKA Architecture to design a new anatomy facility for the University’s Campbelltown campus. The state-of-the-art facility replaces an outdated single-level central section of the existing Building 24. It includes three state-of-the-art anatomy teaching laboratories, three biomedical PC2 research laboratories, and the University UniClinic. Reception and administration offices for the School of Science and Health are also incorporated.

The University viewed the in-fill project as a key opportunity to comprehensively enhance the existing building and provide a clear, prominent entry point and circulation route into and around the building. This strategic approach to circulation continues inside the building, with several external and internal routes converging at the foyer, which functions as a dynamic, high-traffic focal point.

Externally, the building’s façade features a double-storey portico element and a lighter steel filigree structure, which supports horizontal and vertical blade elements, providing shade from the western orientation.
