BKA has recently completed a project in collaboration with Byron Shire Council, transforming the Old Byron Hospital into a vibrant mixed-use Community Hub. The construction was executed by locally based builders Blaze Projects, delivering a remarkable result that has revitalised the space.
The newly established hub now features community office spaces operated and managed by Social Futures, which are dedicated to engaging and supporting the local community. Additionally, the hub features allied health rooms and a café.
In consultation with the Bundjalung of Byron Bay Aboriginal Corporation (Arakwal), the design thoughtfully incorporates elements that honour the Arakwal community. This includes a yarning circle displaying indigenous artwork from a local artist, creating a space that celebrates and respects local traditions and cultural significance. The new hub serves as a vital focal point for community engagement and connection.
