The project delivers modern apartments with high residential amenity while heeding three key considerations: it’s distinctive urban surrounds, efficient space usage within a compact footprint, and sensitivity to its heritage context. The project is a heritage infill development that is bookended by two 3-storey buildings with original historic facades. In response to this challenging context it finds a happy medium between borrowing from its neighbours and diverging from them, nodding subtly at the historic fabric while taking on a contemporary form and material palette. The project comprises 3 studio apartments with frontage onto the rear laneway and 2 two-bedroom apartments with balconies fronting onto King Street.

On these balconies, the triangular openings in the metal façade frame views of King Street and the project’s inner-city surroundings while filtering harsh direct light out of the internal living spaces. A restrained material palette of white walls and off-white natural stone flooring enables bright, spacious interiors, and contributes positively to the project’s overall modern look and feel.
