ArchDaily 2026 Building of the Year Awards – Mudgee Arts Precinct

We’re pleased to share that the Mudgee Art Gallery has been shortlisted for ArchDaily Building of the Year 2026 in the category museums and exhibit.

The project adapts and expands the former Cudgegong Shire Chambers to create a contemporary cultural facility that carefully responds to Mudgee’s heritage context. Positioned below the roofline of its Victorian neighbour and set at a deliberate angle, the new addition establishes a clear architectural dialogue — balancing sensitivity with a strong contemporary identity.

Sculptural roof forms, diffuse natural light, and a warm, earthy material palette shape flexible gallery spaces that support diverse exhibitions, while landscaped gardens extend the art experience into the public realm. The project plays an important role in supporting the cultural and tourism life of the region.
