Currently under construction at BKA Architecture are two boarding house blocks in Kingsford, located near the University of New South Wales and led by our Director, Alyce Thompson.The combined boarding houses are designed to provide 22 units for international students, each equipped with its own bathroom, kitchenette, and study desk. Residents will also enjoy a rooftop deck, a communal garden, and car parking.Situated on a sloping site, with a 10-meter difference from the rear to the front of the buildings, the project necessitated the demolition of a dilapidated house and extensive excavation. Due to tight site constraints imposed by neighbouring buildings, the boarding house blocks required complex bracing between the boundaries to accommodate the formwork for the basement, concrete slabs, and fire tanks.The boarding houses are expected to be completed in June, so stay tuned for further updates on the project’s completion.
