Lismore City Library Almost Completed

BKA collaborated closely with library staff, Lismore City Council, and Bennett Constructions to provide a sensitive refurbishment of the Lismore City Library returning the asset to the community in an improved state compared to its pre-flood condition.

The Lismore City Library, which sustained significant damage during the 2022 floods, marked a major milestone with a soft launch on Monday, February 3rd. While the grand opening is planned for later in March, the council was keen to reopen the doors and welcome the community back to the revitalised space as finishing touches are completed.

This restoration project was made possible through funding from the NSW and Federal Governments and Lismore City Council. BKA were engaged by head contractor, Bennett Constructions.

The library is now more resilient due to the strategic use of materials, construction systems, and building services designed to better withstand water inundation and facilitate maintenance. The layout, finishes, and furniture have been adapted to support contemporary library practices and guidelines, including hosting community events and activities. BKA and stakeholders developed a number of bespoke items to enhance the library experience, such as a hardwood ‘tree’ for the children’s area, custom joinery, new signage and wayfinding, and art concepts for local artists.
